The search for the perfect pie crust: the apple custard e'pie'sode

It's been rather quiet around here.

Lots have taken place these few weeks and I have been caught up with my other plans.

Amid all these changes is one thing constant - i'm still fiddling with the oven regularly!
And glad to find respite in doing so.

i have been on a quest to find the perfect shortbread crust - the kind which is full of buttery goodness, strong enough to hold creamy fillings, yet crumbly at every bite.

i think i may have found one which comes close to what i am searching for...

But this calls for more testing. And the testing this time came along with delicious apple custard.

Apple petals :)
Pureed apple was added to my favourite homemade custard.
And apple petals were added one by one - it was therapeutic to see the rose slowly growing before me...
A view from the top!
i put my rose into the oven and waited with anticipation for it to bloom.

And it did, beautifully :)
